Self-Reliance

I thought this was interesting article about being self reliant in an economic down turn, and emergency. I am taking small steps to being debt free (see this post). But I have ofter wondered what I would do in a true emergency. Americans today wouldn't know what to do. How would be get around? What would we do for food? If we had another Great Depression I fear we would be much worse off- mainly because we aren't self-reliant. I am thinking about borrowing the books the article mentions from the library. I'll let you know what I think.
