The 3's

Forgive my very long blogging break.  If you follow my blog, you know it happens.  Life has certainly gotten in the way... starting grad school, staying social, working part time, keeping up relationships... well, they all take time.

That being said... I am going to get back into blogging very, very slowly.  Here is a meme that I got tagged in...

The 3's:

Three names I go by:
1. Jaye
2. Jaye P.
3. Jaye Patricia (but that is reserved for the grandparents)

Three jobs I have had in my life:
1. Chick-fil-a... I worked in the back
2. far too many temp jobs; the best when I was a secret shopper and I ordered drinks to see if the wait staff would card me.  And no, I didn't get to actually drink the drink!
3. Girl Scouts, Membership Director and now a 100th Anniversary Project Coordinator

Three places I have lived:
1. Virginia Beach, VA
2. Ann Arbor, MI
3. Raleigh, NC

Three Favorite drinks:
1. Coca-Cola
2. Water
3. Barq's Root Beer

Three TV shows that I watch:
1. Glee
2. Teen Mom
3. Criminal Minds

 Three Places I have been:
 1. Budapest, Hungary
 2. Germany
 3. Istanbul, Turkey

Three of my favorite foods:
1. Pizza - Mellow Mushroom for special occasions and Papa John's if I am ordering in...
2. Chinese - cheap Chinese may be the best...
3. Quesadillas

Three things I am looking forward to:
1. being done with this semester
2. seeing people after Thanksgiving
3.  Christmas music :-)

Three people I think will respond:
1. you're assuming I'll tag anyone... HA!

Three pets I have/had:
1. Rosie, the best Rottweiler there ever was.
2. Lana, my first crazy Siamese
3. Belle, my current crazy Siamese

Three places I want to visit before I die:
1. Australia
2. New Zealand
3. England/Ireland

Know Me

Saw this over at simply modern mom and just couldn’t resist…
Making : myself with cookie season.  I turn over all paper work next Friday!
Cooking : lots of egg salad and grilled cheese lately.  They're my new obsessions.

Drinking : water, miss Coke, but glad to be reminded that I live in a nation with plentiful clean water.  Praying for those who aren't so blessed.

Reading : Anne of Green Gables series... and my American History text
.
Wanting : an iPod touch -- seems like a fun toy.  Being responsible and resisting.

Looking : out the window wishing I could be outside.

Playing : my iPod.  It is almost always on.

Wasting : time by filling this out.

Sewing : nothing right now... maybe something for some upcoming showers.  Depends on how adventurous I feel.

Wishing : to spend a week in the Bahamas or Hawaii.  How can I make that happen?

Enjoying : the sunshine and weather. :-)  and more time for Scrapbooking.

Waiting : to find out if I got into Grad School...
Liking : the new Pearl Jam song.  It is very unlike Pearl Jam which is why I probably like it.

Wondering : when my tax refund will come.

Loving : my life.

Hoping : and trusting in Christ, in His plan for me.
Marveling : at how capable at wasting time I am.
Needing : nothing.  there are lots of "wants" that I am making into "needs," but I don't really need them.

Smelling : nothing.  I should change that.

Wearing : my cute navy blue dress I got from the Gap Outlet when I went to Tennessee with fun friends last summer.

Following : no one on twitter.  I deleted my account because I was letting it waste so much of my time.

Noticing : that I can be disciplined for two to three weeks at a time and then I let it go for a week; then I hope right back on the "discipline" wagon.

Learning : about American History.

Thinking : lots of things.  When am I not thinking?

Bookmarking : lots and lots of blogs.  I need to updated my blog roll.
Opening : lots of emails.  Oh Work Inbox, how I would love to turn you off some days.
Giggling : at nothing.  I am a laugh out loud kind of girl/
Feeling : good about life right now.  I think it is all the sunshine.

What about you?  Feel free to fill this out and let me know how your life is!

Much Better

I have been looking at old posts recently and found this one. The survey said I should find a new job. Well, I retook the quiz. I think it accurately portrays how I feel about my current job. :-)

Your Job Satisfaction Level: 71%

Your job is pretty good, even if it always doesn't seem like it.
You have a lot less stress than most people, and your work environment is definitely above average.
So if you love what you're doing, keep doing it. It doesn't get a lot better than this.
But if you're in a dead end job, you may want to move on. Because if you're not advancing, it's just not worth it.

I am currently praying about what God has in store for me. If you think about it, could you join me in praying? I really do like my job, I just have this feeling that this isn't a long term thing. But I also don't feel called out of the job quite yet. Pray that I would be content where I am at but also taking steps of faith so that I am about to discern when God is calling me away from this job.

On the Josh Wilson front, he is giving away his version of "Angels We Have Heard on High," today on his Advent Calendar. Love this song and his version. Go now and get it! :-).

I am...

Sorry all... I have been kind of absent these last couple of days. I will hopefully be a bit more regular on my blog updating/commenting soon. I have a couple of books to review, some musings from turning 25, fun life adventures to update you on. Whoa... when I put it that way, why haven't I updated yet? Probably because I am forgetful and lazy.

Well, until then, I'll spend today's lunch break do this fun little survey.

I am: frustrated with people who don't know how to find out information for themselves.

I know: I should be working on my Area Newsletter or the Photo Scavenger Hunt rather than blogging.

I want: the new Tony Lucca CD and the new Andrew Peterson CD... maybe for Christmas!

I wish: I was more of a disciplined person.

I hate: Ohio State. Game Day on Saturday people!

I miss: Ann Arbor, snow in December and the general care-free-ness of college days. If only I knew then what I know now about being an "adult."

I fear: never being married or having children.

I feel: pretty good I guess...

I hear: Ray LaMontagne's "Within You" and my floor-mates talking

I smell: my co-workers soup... smells good!

I crave: Coca-Cola all the time.

I search: the web for random things when I am bored or need a mental break; normally it is spoilers for my favorite shows.

I regret: not being better at showing those I care about I love them, especially those far away who need me to spend time on the phone with them, etc.

I love: Chick-fil-a, Coca-Cola, any gummy and sweet

I ache: when I remember embarrassing moments.

I care: far too much about what others think of me.

I always: hit the snooze button in the morning.

I am not: very good at styling my hair... it must have been skipped in my gene pool.

I believe: in Jesus Christ and what He came to do for sinners like me and you.

I dance: like a goof-ball, but I love to anyway... you'll definitely see me on the dance floor.

I sing: ok, but you probably won't hear me. I only sing in the car. It's actually my secret dream to be a famous singer.

I cry: occasionally... really only when I am really mad and frustrated.

I fight: with the best of 'em. I'm very stubborn. And especially if you are my mom and trying to convince me to do something.

I write: seldomly. I am using this blog to try to work on getting my thoughts down onto "paper."

I win: seldomly. But I am very competitive, so this frustrates me.

I lose: my temper fairly fast.

I never: know what to say at the time, but ask me thirty minutes later and I probably have a funny, witty thing to say then... just not when the timing is right.

I confuse: people. I am sure I don't make very much sense.

I am scared: of the unknown.

I need: to learn how to be disciplined.

I am happy about: Fall Retreat this weekend!

I hope: for a better tomorrow, but know it will only come when Christ returns.

I need to read more!

Admittedly, I have been reading more in the last month than I have in the last year... but for someone who once read everyday for hours on end (granted I was a kid who didn't work), this just isn't enough. But... I am working on it. I am cutting down on the TV time (yea!) and ramping up the reading and scrapbooking (one of these days maybe I'll post some pictures of my favorite layouts).

Anyway, here is a fun list I found. It seems that there is a statistic somewhere saying that most adults have only ever read 6... I find that hard to believe because I would say you were forced to at least read 10 of these in school. But, anyway... here is how I fared:

Here’s how it works:
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Mark in red the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your blog

1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte- it was recently recommended to me... I'll give it a try
4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling- If you know me, you know I have read this, a million times (and listened to it on CD)
5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee- I'd like to read this again since I read it in 8th grade and probably didn't have a grasp on all it offered
6 The Bible - I haven’t read all of it, I admit, but would like to someday
7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte
8 Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell
9 His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman - maybe, I'll have to think about reading them
10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens

11 Little Women - Louisa M Alcott- I read this some much as a child... LOVE IT!
12 Tess of the D’Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy
13 Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
14 Complete Works of Shakespeare - don't ever plan to read all of them... but I'll watch them on stage, if you force me to
15 Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier
16 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
17 Birdsong - Sebastian Faulks
18 Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger - another that I want to revisit now that I am an adult.
19 The Time Traveller’s Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
20 Middlemarch - George Eliot

21 Gone With The Wind - Margaret Mitchell - never read it and don't plan too... the movie was bad enough (and normally I don't judge books by movies and visa versa, but this one... it was painful!)
22 The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald
23 Bleak House - Charles Dickens
24 War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy
25 The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
26 Brideshead Revisited - Evelyn Waugh
27 Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
28 Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck - forced to in AP English... man it was over Christmas break and was AWFUL! But, the grayness of the book was the point, I think...
29 Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
30 The Wind in the Willows - Kenneth Grahame

31 Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy
32 David Copperfield - Charles Dickens
33 Chronicles of Narnia - CS Lewis- I have only read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe... shoot me... but I do plan on reading all of them
34 Emma - Jane Austen
35 Persuasion - Jane Austen
36 The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - CS Lewis - Why is this on here if the Chronicles are also on here?... but it is a favorite now that I am older... CS Lewis is a genius!
37 The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
38 Captain Corelli’s Mandolin - Louis De Bernieres
39 Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden
40 Winnie the Pooh - AA Milne- is it sad I didn't know the show/movies were based on a book? maybe I did know this... but where have I been living not to know this?

41 Animal Farm - George Orwell- twice, once in Middle School and once in High School
42 The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown

100 Les Miserables - Victor Hugo- probably not... seems to daunting.

18 of the 100... not the best ever, but I at least beat the statistic. However, there are a good number I plan on reading someday. Too bad I have about 100 million books on the "to read" list. Its a good thing I like it! And it has to be healthier for me than the TV. :-).

Hope all of you are reading something you enjoy today!

I used to read all the time...

I love to read. When I was a child, it was all you could do not to rip the book out of my hand. I just read and read and read.

My "toy bag" when we went on vacation had a doll, some office supplies and as many books as I could stuff in there.

When i went to the library, i checked out the maximum number of books that you could. 15 if I remember correctly...

In fifth grade, math bored me and my teacher recognized I could already do most of it. So, she let me read in math class. I sat in the back and read books. And in case this makes you doubt my math skills, I can add, subtract, multiply and divide. I loved geometry... passed Calculus, etc. I just prefer to read. The only thing I am not too good at is spelling. Spell check is my best friend.

But, what happened? I feel like I hardly read anymore. My goal is to read more! I love it... seeing the characters, getting to know them. all of it... so help me read more. Ask me what I am reading and if I have read today.

Anyway, I thought this was a cool idea... stole it from Burnside Writer's Blog:

One book that changed my life: Bible... but's lets steer clear of the Christianese answers. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. It proved to me that I could read things besides the Babysitters Club. Or, The Tomptom and the Fox. It's a kids book and I used to have my parent's read it to me over and over again as a toddler. I guess it was my first obsession and gave me my passion to read.

One book that I've read more than once: Any of the Harry Potter series. Or Little Women... and Practical Magic. I could pick those up and read them anytime.

One book that I'd want a desert island: Lord of the Rings series... I have never read this... and aspire to. But, I have a feeling the only way you are going to get me to read that monster if it was on a desert island. It seems daunting.

One book that made me laugh: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. Its my current read and I have laughed out loud on a plane while reading it. You know that is a good book if I am willing to embarrass myself for it.

One book that made me cry: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows... because it was sad, but also because it was the last. But, A Prayer for Owen Meany has also made me cry. You should read it... its my dad's favorite and I am beginning to see why.

One book that scared the he** out of me: The Shining by Stephen King. I never finished it. My friend in HS thought I would like it. Ummm, not so much. Scared me too much. I would be in my house with my parents and still be terrified. I like to sleep too much to read crap like that.

One book I wish had been written: umm... so many because I just wish I was a good writer... but Harry Potter, Blue Like Jazz, Girl Meets God (or something like that).

One book I wish had never been written: The Shining. I'm still having nightmares. Any sequel not written by the original author. Cheap, I tell you. Cheap. Get your own ideas!

One book I'm currently reading: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

One book you've been meaning to read: Way too many... almost anything on my bookshelf in my room... Pride and Prejudice is probably next. Then, Chronicles of Narnia, maybe? There's a lot. I'm also open to suggestions.

Your turn. Any good books you'd recommend? Make your own list!

Turn 25 years old on November 10th.
Floss more.
Spend less time caring that I don't floss.
Go somewhere on vacation other than Michigan.
Work out more... or atleast walk everyday.
Refuse to watch "The Hills."
Vote for someone to be our next president.
Eat more salad and less fast food.
Make the "Play Artist Michael Bolton" joke whenever I get into a friend's car.
Cook dinner for myself more often.
Talk to my family and friends on the phone more.
Get better at staying within my spending budget.
Avoid doing drugs, especially those with caffeine in them.
Drink more water and less Coke.
Read Don Miller's new book.
Read more books in general.
Tell those who matter to me I love them more.

So, some of these are serious... some are more sarcastic... some I will definitely be able to do... some will probably never happen. Ask me about them... keep me accountable!

iTunes

I am bored and thought I would do this for some entertainment value. This is only a selected random list as it is my iPod we are using here... not iTunes... my iTunes would be really random as I have tones of songs. But, the iPod will work for now.

Put itunes on random and write down the name of the song

Opening Credits: Sure About It by Hanson (yes, Mmmbop Hanson)
Waking up: Fool the World by Drake Bell
First Day at Highschool: I've Got You Babe by Sonny and Cher
Falling In Love: Love on the Outside by BBMak
Fight Song: Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan (ok, not even close to a fight song, but maybe it makes sense... I hate fighting)
Breaking Up: Let the Good Times Roll by Shirley & Lee
Prom: Do What You Want by Drake Bell
Life: Sparkling Diamonds by Nicole Kidman (from Moulin Rouge)
Mental Breakdown: Blessed by Martina McBride
Driving: The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani
Flashback: Thank You, Lord by John Meixner
Getting Back Together: Neverland by Bryan Greenberg
Wedding: Take Me Home Tonight, verison by acapella group Madison Project
Birth of Child: Bed of Lies by Matchbox 20 (ummm, I don't know how I feel about this)
Final Battle: City of Blind Lights by U2
Death Scene: L.O.V.E by Chelsea Krombach
Funeral Song: This Time Around by Hanson
End Credits: You Won't Be Mind by Matchbox20

Maybe I will do this again with iTunes. But still kinda fun.
